15 Breeds of cats and their personality

With the exception of a few true cat fanciers, Americans have traditionally been less particular about the bloodlines of their cats than of their dogs. Cats were most commonly seen on farms and they worked to help keep down the vermin population. As cats have become more of a companion than a farm-hand there has been a steadily increasing interest in cat breeds, their purity, and pedigree . The Cat Fanciers' Association is dedicated to the preservation of the purebred and recognizes 39 pedigreed cat breeds. Listed below are 15 of these breeds along with some information about the breed's characteristics and history.

1. Russian Blue - The Russian Blue is a gentle, friendly cat with a distinct appearance. These cats have dense, thick, short coats that come in one color: blue. In contract to the blue fur the cats have bright green eyes and are known equally for their beautiful appearance as they are for their unassuming dispositions.

2. Ragdoll - The Ragdoll is a large cat that has been bred to be affectionate and people oriented. They love to play and some have been taught to come when called. The Ragdoll has a medium length coat that lacks an under coat which makes maintenance of the cat easier than many other long-hairs. Ragdolls are easy to live with and fit well into the lives most families.

3. Cornish Rex - Although the Cornish Rex looks similar to images of ancient Egyptian cats it originated in Cornwall, England in 1950 where it was discovered in a littler of barn cats. These cats are distinct in appearance with an egg shaped and sized head, huge, erect ears, and enormous green-yellow eyes. This cat has an extremely unusual coat that is soft, fine, very short, and grows in waves. The Cornish Rex is affectionate, playful, and retains its kitten like antics throughout its lifetime.

4. Siamese -The Siamese cat, originally from Thailand, is an acutely intelligent and inquisitive animal. It is thought to be the oldest of all domestic. The Siamese is a people lover. He will regularly tell his family how much he cares for them with his loud meows.

5. Main Coon - The Main Coon Cat is a large, native-American long-haired cat. It is revered in Main for its mousing talents. The Main Coon is a social animal that is particularly good for families with children or dogs.

6. Abyssinian -Although the name suggests that this cat is from Ethiopia (formerly Abyssinia), they are actually from India. The name "Abyssinian" came about when the cat was initially brought to England by way of Abyssinia. Abys are one of the most intelligent cats and although they are not "cuddly" they love their people, are inquisitive, and want to help you with whatever you're working on.

7. American Bobtail - The American Bobtail looks startlingly similar to a wild Bobcat. It has a dense coat, a stocky build, and a naturally occurring bobbed tail. American Bobtails are noted for their "dog-like" personalities and their devotion to their families. American Bobtails have been used as therapy cats in treatment programs because they have been found to be very well-behaved and sensitive to people in distress.

8. Ocicat - Originating in Michigan in 1964 the Ocicat is a mix of Abyssinian, Siamese and American Shorthair. It is the only spotted domestic breed selectively bred to emulate the cats of the wild. Although the Ocicat has an exotic and wild appearance its personality is very domestic and well suited for life with a family.

9. American Wirehair - The American Wirehair was first seen in upstate New York in 1966. The lone cat was a spontaneous mutation in a litter of barn cats. Healthy, genetic mutation is a relatively common occurrence but the difference with the American Wirehair is that because his characteristics were so unique an organized effort was made to retain his bloodline and genetic pattern. Interestingly, this genetic mutations has not appeared anywhere in the world other than the United States. The American Wirehair's temperament is docile and calm and a great pet for a so-called "couch-potato".

10. Persian - Persians are documented in hieroglyphic paintings dating back to 1684 B.C. They are the most popular of the pure bred cats and come in many colors that are divided into seven color divisions. One of the seven color divisions is referred to as Himalayan. Himalayans are the most common of the Persians and are often inaccurately thought to be (by those outside of the true cat-fanciers group) a unique breed. Persians are sweet and require a stable living environment with consistent routines. The Persian coat requires significant maintenance including daily brushing and frequent baths. To avoid unpleasant outcomes, this routine should be established when the cat is very young.

11. Bombay - In 1953 Nikki Horner, from Louisville, Kentucky set-out to develop a new breed of cats whose appearance was similar to the black panther of India. She bred a sable Burmese with a black-coated, copper-eyed American Shorthair. Over time she consistently bred a solid colored black cat unique from all other cat breeds. The Bombay, named in tribute to the Indian black -panther, was introduced to the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) in 1976. The Bombay is an athletic, outgoing, and affectionate cat that has been known to be leash trained. They make terrific family pets.

12. American Shorthair - The American Shorthair originated from cats that were brought over on the Mayflower to rid the ship of mice. These cats were likely British Shorthairs and although they can be similar in appearance to the mixed-breed domestic cat, American Shorthairs are a unique genetic breed. According the Cat Fanciers Association, the difference between a domestic cross bred cat and an American Shorthair is that, "a pedigreed cat can consistently produce kittens of the same physical conformation, coat quality, and temperament, while a random-bred cat cannot. Years of selective breeding and the careful recording of many generations of cats guarantee that each litter of kittens will have specific qualities. American Shorthairs are playful companions for the entire family.

13. Somali - At first glance the Somali cat looks like a feral or wild cat. It resembles a fox in its color and movement. Its looks are deceiving because the Somali is a sweet, quiet natured cat with an intelligent and social disposition. Because it is slightly larger than many other purebreds, the Somali is great for families with small children.

14. Exotic - Exotics are sometimes affectionately referred to as the lazy man's Persian. They are bred to match every standard of the Persian except one: coat length. Exotics have short, thick hair that does not mat or tangle. They are wonderful pets for people that love the Persian breed but don't have the time or discipline required to maintain a Persian's coat.

15. Siberian - There is little known about the Siberian other than that the earliest documentation of the cat dates back 1000 years. Because there is so little documentation about Siberians it's difficult to know the true standards of the breed. The first Siberian was brought to the United States in 1990 and despite the cats instant popularity they are still extremely rare in the U.S. Siberians come in a wide range of colors and have a medium length, dense coat. Siberians are extremely friendly and behave similarly in temperament to many of the terrier dog breeds. Additionally, there is evidence that Siberians cause fewer reactions in many cat allergy sufferers. Siberians were recognized by the CFA in 2000.

What Are the Most Popular Cat Breeds?

Did you know that the Cat Fancier's Association of America (CFA) recognizes 41 cat breeds? Usually when people talk about breeds, they're normally talking about dogs. Most people don't recognize how many different cat breeds there are, and are usually stunned to find out how many there are.

Currently the CFA officially recognizes 40 cats. Currently the Ragamuffin cat is only recognize with provisional status. This is the last step before this breed becomes officially recognized which will bring the total up to 41.

Currently the top 10 cat breeds listed in order are Persians, Maine Coons, Exotic, Siamese, Abyssinian, Ragdoll, Birman, American shorthair, Oriental, and the Sphynx.

The largest domestic breed is the Maine Coon cat, which did originate from Maine. Some males of the breed can weigh up to 25 pounds. The smallest cat is the Singapura, which is from Singapore. These cats rarely weigh more than 8 pounds.

Not all popular breeds are approved by the CFA. Some of these breeds include the Bengal, California Spangled Cat, Himalayan, Cymric, and the Nebelung.

The reason the CFA doesn't recognize some of these cats is that some of them incorporate wild animals into their breeding, or the breed has not been developed enough, or the breed association has not approach the CFA about officially recognizing them.

While Persians are the number one pedigreed breed, the most popular cats are actually domestic shorthaired cats. But the reason that these cats are not recognized, is that they are essentially of mixed stock and not purebreds. Domestic shorthaired cats are probably owned by the majority of people out there.

Understanding cat breeds

There are about 50 different breeds of cats and saying that it is one thing, but actually taking a look at some of the breeds and understanding them is another because in each breed of cats, there are many differences that make them, what they are. Some breeds of cats seen apart after looking, but others will lose. You can give a name to disable some of the older but the most unusual BREEDS of Abyssinian, American Bobtail, Maine Coon, and Bombay all these cats were discovered around 1950-1960, but some have been around centuries.

As distinguished from each other, a breed of cat it is very difficult, because the node on the color of the hair, eyes (sometimes), body structure and how long is the hair. Some cats may look the same to us, but they have a rich past and heritage history. Some breeds of cats are very old and unusual, but they are also very interesting and even more interesting reminiscent of the Egyptian Mau is the fastest breed of domestic cat and you can start after 30 miles per hour or more, and there is a presumption of one of the original breeds of cats.

How can we understand and keep up with all these new changes of cat breeds? Also you can search and archive cats just for fun or you can view the properties of a cat and check, but one thing is for certain, it will be very difficult to keep up. There are many breeds of cats and some are not recognized by the community of Cat yet, but it had to establish a breed of cat that would be very religious. Sometimes you can never say for example, there are three types of Siamese cats that look like to the naked eye like the Tonkinese, Birman, or Balinese all but Birman are Siamese ancestors and look a bit like a race, but not the breed. Also certain BREEDS have no tail. The fact very few from fifty different breeds, so it is one of the dead pass if you are trying to verify the origin of the cats or breed. In addition, it is sometimes face some cats are very brief and minor mouth is another give away.

The cat of breed Maine Coon

You are a dog lover who wants to have a cat? If so, you may want to take a look at the cat of breed Maine Coon extraordinary. This breed is extraordinarily intelligent and has a personality that's not exactly like cat. If you think all cats Act the same, you probably haven't seen a Maine Coon decide to take a relaxing dip in the swimming pool for children of his family.

The Maine Coon is known as a gentle giant, which is not surprising, since these lovely cats weigh anywhere from nine to twenty-two pounds. The breed has A squarish face, a thick neck, big ears, rounded, large eyes and a large, muscular body. The tail is long and quite thick.

This breed of cat was first seen in Maine in the late eighteen hundreds and probably developed his thick coat as a way to protect the winters in this area. When the breed was first established, only the color of Brown tabby was recognized. This coat color and thick of Maine Coon tail gave him the look of a raccoon, and probably is this aspect which gave its name to these cats. Today, this breed comes in many colors more recognised, including black, blue, cream, red, turtle, turtle, blue, white, smoke, silver tabby, Brown tabby, red tabby, blue tabby, cream tabby and bicolors. Cats may have green or gold eyes, unless they are white, in this case, the eyes can also be blue or incompatible.

These cats have a wonderful personality and are the perfect cat breed for families. However, they are also content being the only animal in a quiet House.

If you want a cat extremely quiet, Maine Coon may not be the perfect choice for you. These cats are a bit of vocal side. However, the mewling that these cats make is a chirping sound nice that some people find to be annoying.

With the long coat that this breed has, it's no surprise that the Maine Coon needs frequent grooming. You must be prepared to comb completely off your cat's coat at least twice a week. If the coat begins to develop knots and Snarls, you may need to prepare even more frequently.

In General, this descendant of hardy farm cats is a healthy breed. If your cat seems to be feeling under the weather, he probably has a problem of the ball. Of course, you should seek veterinary care to ensure that he has no problem more seriously. While you're talking to your vet, you can consult you on how to feed your cat a cat food with ball control.

Once the Maine Coon is said to be the world's most popular race, there would be no surprise if you decided you wanted to own one of these beautiful animals. If you want a cat loving and smart, this breed can be the perfect choice for you.

Colors Siamese Cat-just how many different colors of Siamese point are there?

Most people would recognize a seal point Siamese cat if they saw one, although they may not know that was a seal.

A seal point Siamese is the archetype, a cat with dark brown-seal points (points are facial mask, ears, nose, feet and tail of a cat), shot to fame in movies like the incredible journey, that darn cat! and Bell, book and candle.

But you know how many other colors the Siamese cat is found in? Or, what if a particular color is classified as ' Siamese ' or not may depend on which country the cat is?

The original four Siamese colors are seal point, blue point, chocolate point and lilac point means that, as their names suggest, that these cats have seal-Brown, blue-grey, slate-milk chocolate or pale lilac.

These colors are the four Siamese colors ' official ' recognised by the cat writers ' Association (CFA) in the United States. Any other, different colors found in cats with a default of Siamese coat are called colorpoint Shorthair cats ' ' CFA-Colorpoint Shorthair by being, in effect, classified as a separate and distinct breed for the Siamese breed.

However, over in the United Kingdom and other European countries, there are additional colors that are also recognised as being officially Siamese.

These are red, apricot, caramel cream, cinnamon, and fawn point Siamese-latest additions to the four original colors. Ten colors in all. So far so good!

When Siamese coloration becomes complicated is that there are also distributed, or tabby (known as lynx in the US) and mottled, or versions of turtle (tortie) of colours above, too. And for good measure-and added complication-tortie-tabby (a mixture of striped and mottled) also.

So how many colors are there in total?

Well, as mentioned above, a bit depends on where you are in the world, but ... the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF), breed registration best known in the United Kingdom, recognises no less than 32 Siamese colors in all!

10 Cat Breeds & Their Personalities

As anyone who has owned more than one cat can attest, not all cats are created equal. Just as is the case with dogs, the looks, personalities and other traits can vary greatly from breed to breed. If you plan to buy a cat from a reputable breeder, it is a good idea to do some research so that you can select a cat whose personality will best match what you'd like in a pet.

Below are 10 cat breeds along with some of their personality traits.

Abyssinian

These easy to groom cats are very social. They do best in homes where there will be a lot of companionship. This can be human companionship or that of other cats. Abyssinians are very loving and active. This breed is one that will be happy to play with their human caretakers.

Bengal

Bengals, which have gained popularity in the last several years, have the personalities of domestic cats with a few glimpses into the wild side of their heritage. These cats are very vocal, and will not hesitate to "tell" you if they are not happy about something. They have a very high energy level and love to explore their surroundings.

Birman

The outgoing cats are well-known for the affection that they show their owners. This breed has been featured in cat shows since 1925. They are playful, but do not have the abundance of energy that some other breeds possess.

Exotic Shorthair

This breed is gentle and curious. It loves to investigate each nook and cranny in its environment, but will also, at times, be content to snuggle lazily in their owners lap.

Pixie-Bob

This breed is considered a good choice if you have children or if the cat will have to share the home with canine companions. Considered one of the most intelligent cat breeds, Pixie-Bobs can be trained and love spending time interacting their humans. They generally get along very well with every member of the household, including the two-legged and the four-legged kind.

Scottish Fold

While most cats have the reputation of being demanding, this is not true of the Scottish Fold. While the cats are sweet and loyal to their owners, they are happy to spend their days being about their own business.

Munchkin

For owners who want a cat that loves to curl up on their lap and snuggle, the Munchkin is a good option. This cat tends to be more affectionate than some other breeds. They typically do fine with other animals and, for this reason, are also a good choice if you have other cats or dogs in the home.

American Wirehair

These cats, which sport a unique, springy coat, are among the most people-oriented of the cat breeds. These cats require a home in which they will receive a good amount of attention and playtime from their owners. They will come to you if you don't go to them and will have no problem doing whatever it takes to get your attention.

Siberian

These cats, which require a fair amount of grooming, enjoy spending time with other cats but also require human attention. This breed displays less of the hyperactivity that some others breeds are known for and tends to be generally calm.

Ragdoll

These cats were given the name Ragdoll because of the degree to which they love to relax and take naps. They love sharing their home with other Ragdolls and often nap one of top of the other. These cats get along well with other cats and dogs and can tolerate children. They need some attention from their owner, which they look for in between naps.

Discover The Amazing And Exotic Cat Breeds On This Planet That Your Grandfather Never Heard Of

It may amaze you, as it has amazed me, that there are many different "genetically tinkered" cat breeds today. Never would my grandfather, in his day, imagine that there will be so many different cat breeds because man decided to make them so. Today we have the hairless and non-shedding cat breeds as well as the better known Persian, Siamese, Calico bread, etc. But before we condemn the scientists for playing God, we should also realize that some of these new breeds of cats are actually stronger and healthier and do not carry the troublesome character traits of "traditional cats".

At the present moment, we have so many cat breeds that we need a cat registrar to keep track of them. In North America, we can find breeds with long tail or long fur. Some of the most interesting breeds include the Allet Cat, the long furred Persian Cat, the Siamese Cat and even the wild cats. Some of these cats have very bad temperament while others are more subdued and loving. But all in all, cats tend to be cool towards people, unlike the friendly dog. So if you want to buy a cat, make it it suits your own temperament!

Here are some interesting historical snippets of cat breeds the world over:

i) One of the earliest pets in the world was a cat. In ancient Egypt, Pharoahs and even ordinary folk used cats for protection and companionship. Even in today's high tech world, the cat symbol remains a popular choice. Examples are the Japanese Hello Kitty, Doreamon and of course, Garfield the fat cat.

ii) The Japanese Bobtail is already extinct. It existed in Jesus's time but in the land of the rising sun, Japan. Little is known of this exotic breed except that it has a bobtail and lived over a thousand years ago.

iii) The notorious "Alley cat" simply refers to the many homeless cats of all kinds of breeds. They are not unique to America as alley cats can be found anywhere in the world - they basically lived in alleys. Many of these cats are homeless and uncared for because of overbreeding. In many countries, these poor cats are "put to sleep", or culled, because they carry diseases and are a threat to public health.

iv) The Siamese cat, as the name suggest, came from Siam, the ancient name for Thailand. Siamese cats are beautiful furry creatures anyone would like to cuddle. Unlike Siamese twins, these cats don't come joined together.

Is you want to own a cat, be sure that you know how to breed it and take care of it properly. A cat, or any other pet for that matter, is also a living being and should be cared for like a child. Treat your cat like your baby and it will return your affection like a baby

Burmese cats are generally inside cats as they don't seem to have any instincts to protect themselves from predators. Burmese cat are great with kids due to their quiet and easy going nature.

Egyptian Mau cats

If you are looking for a spotted cat, the Egyptian Mau cat is the way to go. They are the only natural breed that has spots. The Egyptian Mau is a very smart cat that is quite active, and extremely loyal to their owners. They are a medium-sized short-haired type of cat.

Persian cats

Persian cats love to sit around and laze away the day with their owner. They are gentle, sweet tempered, and trusting. They need the attention of their owner, but they aren't obsessive about it. Persian Cats are tremendously responsive and a joy to have them around.

So which cat breed is right for me? It all depends on what you expect from your new pet. Choosing a cat breed can be a difficult task unless you know what to expect with each breed. Before picking your new kitten, make sure you know what you are looking for in your new pet.

Are You Taking Advantage of Circumstances?

Like so many other animal rescue groups, the non-profit, all-volunteer, no-kill group CARMA in Corrales, NM, was in need of donations. Even though they held adoption clinics every weekend at Petsmart, the public seemed relatively unaware of them and their accomplishments. They were struggling to keep their rescue and medical assistance efforts going. Then suddenly something changed.

After rescuing 30 cats from the apartment of a disabled man who was about to be evicted, all but one cat was adopted or placed in a foster home. The cat which was left behind was a smokey tortoiseshell adolescent named "Slate." This cuddly, lip-kissing cat was thought to be a shoe-in for adoption until his blood test results found he was positive for feline leukemia. While he had no symptoms, he carried a potentially lethal cat disease that made it impossible for him to go to a home with healthy cats. CARMA was saddened and desperate.

As chance would have it, one of their members received an e-mail about an upcoming conference on how to enhance their visibility efforts. As promotion for the conference, there were free teleseminars on topics to be covered. The first one was how to create no-cost publicity. It was an eye-opener. In five days CARMA sent out a carefully-crafted media release to local papers, such as the Albuquerque Journal, and local television stations.

CARMA members used word of mouth to let everyone know about their search for a shelter or foster home for Slate. While CARMA was contacting shelters around the country, looking for an opening for Slate, the media were beginning to follow up on this heart-breaking story. Surprisingly a three-quarter-page spread with photo layout appeared in the Sunday Edition.

Finally CARMA found a shelter specifically for FELV+ cats. But they said they had no room. Strangely, the next morning they called back to welcome Slate as their new resident. The only problem now was that the shelter was over a thousand miles away. Both delighted and chagrinned, CARMA tried to arrange a "waggin' train" to pass Slate from one driver to another until he arrived at his destination. Another snag. There were not enough drivers for the different legs of the trip.

Word of Slate's month-long plight continued to spread. Then out of the blue someone donated an airline ticket for him. Next someone who was traveling in that direction volunteered to be his companion. A third person donated a year's worth of care at $15 per month for Slate at his new home. The media again covered Slate but this time on his series of little miracles.

While this was great for Slate, CARMA still needed more donations to cover their everyday work. To everyone's surprise, on Monday the phone to began to ring incessantly with offers of help. A sack of mail brought notes of congratulation, many with accompanying checks.

What CARMA learned quickly from the Slate incident is what Louis Pasteur said, "Chance favors the prepared mind." They are now taking advantage of their many heart-warming and heart-breaking pet rescue circumstances and keeping their work visible however they can.

Breed Scottish Fold cat-

The unusual looking Scottish Fold is a variety of cat comes in a race of short hair and long-haired (sometimes called the Highland Fold). The first of its kind born in the Decade of 1960 on a Scottish farm, its distinguishing characteristic is a gene that produces single, double or triple folded ears, only known breed of cat in existence to have that.

Initially I thought that the Scottish Fold cat was prone to deafness due to their ears in a very peculiar and was not popular in their homeland still in 1973 was officially recognized as a breed in the United States. The creation of this type of cat is best left to experts due to possible genetic problems with offspring, including joint afflictions.

Tends to weigh on the 2.4-6 kilos (6-13) and medium-sized with shortish legs and feet round, well-padded. Colors and patterns are varied tabby and tabby Brown, red, lilac and white skins are customary. A "patched tabby" or "torbie" variety, also being a combination of tortoise and tabby exists. They have large, round eyes and a dome-shaped head curious.

Scottish Folds can be long or short coat can have any combination of colors of the coat except for points of Siamese-style. Folds pointed out have been created, but they are not eligible to show. The original cats had only one doubles in his ears, but as mentioned due to selective breeding have increased the fold for a double or triple crease that causes the ear to lie completely flat against the head.

This breed of cat with folded ears or with normal ears, are usually good natured and quiet and are known to sleep on their backs. They tend to become very attached to their human caregivers and are by nature quite affectionate.

Scottish Folds typically have soft voices and display a complex repertoire of Meows and purrs not found in most well known breeds.

These cats have trusting temperaments, well-behaved and well-developed curiosities and are known to be a tough race and happy; also being affectionate and impassioned by human contact, playful, but not overly extroverted.

A Scottish fold makes an ideal choice as a unique pet, familiar.

Persian Cat-Chocolate and lilac color

Chocolate or lilac Persians?

Can it be possible? I, as an owner, breeding Persians and exots, pose myself such a problem quite recently. Of, course they exist, if to see from genetic point of view. These colors are included into standard, there is their description, but... Where are they? By all accounts from abroad, they have such animals but for some reason they are more often met in pedigrees of British cats as experimental partners for leading new color into the breed, but not like exhibition stars. It had to spent lots of time to answer the question: "What is the real situation with Lilac and Chocolate in the Persian group?"

The paradox came to light at once: there is enough big number of Points with Chocolate and Lilac masques and practically full absence of equally colored individuals. Probably, the fashion played its role in it. After all, from the genetic point of view Lilac-Point color is more difficult in receiving than, for example, Chocolate Solid (solid-monochromatic, "firm" colour). Now, thanks to fashion's jokes, selectionists are forced to word for word take out Chocolate and Lilac either from Solid-carriers CRC (carriers of Color-Point gene) or to work simpliciter with color lines, making copulations Solids (moreover it is desirable of stronger type) with Colors and further interbreeding on the Color parents. Such copulations are made for a long time, but purposeful selection are begun recently in this direction.

Only several breeding nurseries work today in this direction:

This is JUKI in Poland. It is world-famous nursery. But again they have Chocolate and Lilac not like purpose of selection, but like a side effect of Color-Points' breeding of modern type. This is Smaragd in Estonia, which specializes in Persian and Exotic cats of Lilac color and uses in the work cats from JUKI and Finnish nurseries.Lilac cat of strong type, reached high victories by FIFE system. Pedigree program of the nursery is various and includes copulations with Chocolate sires. This is Tair Polling in Ukraine, using also bloods of JUKI, but specializing, vice versa, only in Chocolates and Tabbys. You can see first kittens from this oldest Kharkov nursery in Moscow. This is club Irbis (FIFE) in Krasnodar, working at the Colors' bloods and carriers of Chocolate. Today the nursery Rarity of one sire, cat of Lilac color. Now you can see the first Lilac prosterity of show-quality.The nursery Kelisa in Sochi is the nursery of Chocolate Persians. Prosterity of the same type, thought-out pedigree program. The nursery plans the receiving of Lilac Exots and the perfection of the type.Several animals of Chocolate color appeared in Russia and Ukraine, but you can't see the result of breeding yet. Or these cats still too young, or the pedigree program is not thought out, giving a soon result. Chocolate Exot of Kharkov bloods lives in Saint Petersburg (owner is Orlova S.), also the city on Neva can boast of Chocolate Color-Point, imported from Poland, one more Exot from Kharkov is purchased by the nursery Dimarsh (Moscow).Ther are animals of modern type in Perm and Voronezh, but because of their remoteness from the capital or passivity of the owners we have a few information about them. The nursery Alexander-Fred (Moscow) has three Chocolate Persian cats ( of different blood lines), one Chocolate Exot, Chocolate Cream cat, and also several cats-carriers of chocolate gene. The nursery plans the receiving of Chocolate and Lilac Bicolor cats. The nursery leads common pedigree program with Kelisa (Sochi).Several enthusiasts in Moscow started the breeding of Chocolate and Lilac Persians, but probably they either didn't have enough means to purchase interesting sires or purposefully decided to go all the way of coming-into-being of animals' type, who originally received chocolate color by the way of interbreeding.

It is necessary to understand genetic appropriatenesses of these colors to know the rules of breeding and receiving of Lilacs and Chocolates.

Black color of the hair equally with red is considered to be the basic color. Pigment melanin in black color - eumelanin, in red - pheomelanin. All the rest various colors (except white) are only derivatives of these two. Black color of the hair is formed under the influence of gene B - black, which is defined full chromogenesis. The pigment equally assignes to the axis of hair from the root till the tip. Gene B - black of black color is prepotent, and behind it the row of recessive genes can be hiden:

Gene brightener D (delutor - i.e. diluent), that gives an opportunity to receive from the given sire kittens of blue color. This gene is charged with distribution of pigments, their more thin location along the axis of hair, making the tone of the hair more light;Gene b of chocolate color ( special location of pigments along the axis of the hair) , giving an opportunity to receive from the giving animal kittens of chocolate color and, in combination with gene-brightener D, lilac color. Consideration must be given to the fact that gene b is recessive. I.e. to receive kittens of chocolate color, both of parents must be carrier of this gene, and to receive the posterity of lilac color, both of parents must have at the same time genes D and b;Gene of siamese color is interesting by opportunity to receive the posterity with siamese marks, including blue, chocolate and lilac colors (in the presence of genes of clarification and chocolate color at the same time).

Presence of given genes can define, studied the pedigree of sire or in practice, choosing partners with known genetics. But to receive the color, close to ideal, it is necessary to keep to the rule - to pair similar with similar. The main requirement for the quality of lilac and chocolate color is their tender, warm tone. These colors go well together, but as possible partners it is allowed to choose cats of Red, Cream colors, who give their Lilac and Chocolate progeny pinkish tint of hair and bright eye color. To Lilac and Chocolate Tabbys can be recommended Golden Tabbys as possible partners or improvers of type.

Peculiarity of today's situation in Chocolate breeding of Persian is that the task to get rid of Siamese gene became the purpose of the selectionists. At the first stage of the work it comes to the leading this gene into the recessive state. In future, numerous copulations of Chocolates and Lilacs 'inside them' will allow to clear up the color gene of the population.

It would seem that there is nothing simplier to pair Lilac-Point with Red cat, and then interbreed littermates between each other. But the question of the type stands the most sharply in Persians than in other breeds. That's why such way is inconvinient - doing the step forward, it has to do two steps back. What we have to do? Very often animals of black color, especially in extreme breeds are the carriers of the strongest, modern type, that's why they are used as improvers in the breeding of animals of different colors such as Points, Smokes, Bicolors and even Chinchillas. That's why it is appropriate to attract exactly them (or Tortoiseshell cats, received from black, high-class sires) to the chocolate program.

Many different breeds of cats of our world

Throughout history we have cultivated and studied cats develop different breeds, and also to eliminate the characteristics of the troublesome characters. The result of controlled breeding, genetic science, created many different breeds of cats, is currently displayed. Those breeds genetic studies that have been made in the last decade, contained no shedding BREEDS, as well as the Hairless cats. Most of us can recognize the races today and get to know them by name, like a Calico, Persian and Tabby.

Currently, there are also over seventy known BREEDS and cat records to keep track of all of these breeds. In many of these breeds are their differences, which include feral cats, which have a longer tail and longer hair.

Some of the most common domestic BREEDS native to North America are long haired, Persian, and Alley cat. Siamese breed can also be found commonly in North America. Siamese BREEDS have a bad temper and can be destructive to the House. Persian BREEDS are referred to as personality, love and loyal companions and make life Great. On the basis of what kind of Persian type you want to buy, the price for this breed can be very expensive.

Some older BREEDS of Cat registries rely considerably in world history. Japanese Bobtail cat that was native to Japan, which are over a thousand years ago. Japanese Bobtail cat is now gone and only the threads of this exists.

Feline commonly in North America is the Alley cat. Name of the Alley cat in fact refers to the many different breeds, but most people call these Alley cats. No shortage of Alley cats in the world, literally, hundreds of thousands of these cats are there today. Many of the Alley cats are homeless due to breeding. In many cities of America controlled breeding programs have been put into place. Catch wild felines, neutering them, and then setting them free, they controlled breeding programmes of work.

The best way to tell what breed of cat it may be to find some of the characteristics of individual breeds. Most people, you can quickly check if the feline in question is the Siamese by his distinct eyes and black. By checking the properties of the type and body hair, Persian BREEDS are easily recognizable.

Different Type of Guinea Pig Breeds and Colors

Guinea pigs, also known as cavy, are species of rodents originated in Andes, a mountain Range in South America. How it ends up being called a Guinea pig when it's not even a pig nor is it from Guinea, is still a big question.

"Cavies" are docile in nature; they are a social animal and they rarely bite even when they are tense. Their receptiveness to handling and feeding, and the relative ease of caring for them, makes them a popular pet.

Domesticated cavies come in various breeds, which have been developed since their introduction to Europe and North America. Since their introduction to the United States and Europe, developing new guinea pig breeds gears toward development of attractive and appealing pet.

Here are some common breeds:

The American or formerly known as English cavy is the most popular, they are also the oldest breed of Guinea Pig. The good thing about this Cavy because of its short and glossy coat its low maintenance. It's also easy to handle because of its tame personality.

The Abyssinian cavy has a very distinctive appearance. Its coat is multiple swirls of hair referred to as cow licked rosettes. The ideal Abyssinian has 10 rosettes, one on each shoulder, four across its back, one on each of the animal's hips, and two on the rump.

The Peruvian breed has a smooth and straight coat that grows to several inches in length. These type of guinea pig breeds requires a lot of grooming because of its long hair, which makes it harder to take care of. The Himalayan cavy originates in Southeast Asia and is similar to the Siamese cat in coat. Himalayans' coat darkens depending on the temperature.

A Silkie or Sheltie has a silky and very long coat that smoothly flows back over its body and never forward over the face (as in the Peruvian). Compared to the well-known Peruvian, the Silkie's soft coat fails to part, at least naturally, along the back. The hair continues to grow backwards from the head. The Sheltie is normally expected to have a fairly longer sweep of hair in the back. The Teddy is a short-haired cavy characterized by a short dense coat with bent (kinked) hair streak that makes the coat stand on end, giving a very fuzzy look.

There are also a range of color varieties of cavies, aside from the typical guinea pig breeds. The familiar colors are the following:

Self: This cavy only has one color, so it can be completely black or white or any other color. This is one of the most common colors for cavies. An all-black color guinea pig is called self-black.

Agouti: Alternate dark and light bands of color on each hair; the hair roots color is different from the tip. Usually, this type of color is found in short-coated guinea pigs.

Solid: This is almost like the Agoutis, but its belly is marked as well.

Tortoiseshell: This guinea pig is a mixture of black and red; just like the Dalmatian, it comes with patches.

Brindle: Black series and red series hair colors are evenly mixed throughout their coats.

Albino: This is one of the most common colors for guinea pig. It is white with pink eyes.

Dalmatian: Just like its dog counterpart, this "pig" has a white body with black patches or spots.

Himalayan: The color of the Himalayan's body is white, while brown or black is the color of its nose and feet. The color of the eyes is either black or pink.

If you're interested in owning a cavy as a pet, there are lots of other breeds you can choose from.

I have been an owner of Guinea pigs for over 6 years. They are amazing little critters and can bring a family lots of love. I want to give all guinea pig lovers all the information they need to have a healthy and happy Guinea pig for many, many years. http://www.expertguineapigcare.com/

How To Go About Choosing A Cat Breed That Suits You

Domestic cats make great pets for most homes because they are very easy to care for and generally bond easily with humans. Most of the societies and cultures around the world have made it a practice to adopt cats into their family structures. However, domestic cats do vary quite a bit in their physical design and personalities from one breed to the next. Choosing a cat breed that suits you and your family is not a task that should be taken lightly. Nor should choosing a cat breed that suits you seem like a difficult task.

The first consideration when choosing a cat breed is the size of your living area. You may always think of cats as being leisurely lounge lizards, but many breeds spend as much time playing as lounging. Playful cat breeds need plenty of room to play. Also, the larger the play area and the more there is to do, such as another cat to interact with, the less likely the cat is to go mad if it doesn't see you much for a few days.

That leads to the second consideration when choosing a cat breed. You need to think about how much time your family is going to be able to spend with the cat. If your new little friend doesn't at least get a couple of gentle touches and a cuddle every other day, it will go mad. Although how much attention is necessary has a lot to do with the breed. The other part of the time consideration is that some cats require more grooming maintenance such as bathing and brushing. A busy family should get a cat with short fur.

The third consideration when choosing a cat breed is allergies to cats. These allergies are not uncommon, but there is much variance in the degree in which they manifest themselves. Someone with a very heavy cat allergy probably should not own a cat. Someone with a light allergy that results in a few sneezes or coughs a day can have a cat, but should be careful in choosing a cat breed that will minimize allergen exposure. For example, you will want to choose a cat breed that has short fur and rarely sheds its fur to reduce your exposure.

The fourth, and probably most often forgotten, consideration when choosing a cat breed is the cost of taking care of that breed. Some breeds are hardier than others. Many breeds have common ailments, such as deafness or fur balls, that may get costly in veterinarian visits. Also, a cat that weighs half as much and has a lazy temperament will eat less than half as much as the cat that weighs twice as much and is packed full of energy.

The fifth, and final, consideration when choosing a cat breed is how the personality of the kitty matches up with the other personalities of your family. Cats come in different temperaments. There are lap, child-friendly, indoors, independent hunter, and jealous, one-person cats.

The lesson in the breeding of cats

Cats have been breeding themselves for thousands of years from the first day of the cats were used one reason and one reason only-the hunting and killing rodents. As the time it ended, people began to breed cats, companionship and social acceptance. They were outstanding animal husbandry, which becomes more than just the mouse snaps. Soon, various kinds of cats began and soon were reared exclusively for these types of races for the purposes of the contest. These days, a register of persons, their unique breeds of cats for hundreds of Cat shows a year for the sport.

It was found that there are around more than 40 different breeds of cats in accordance with the largest registry of cat breeds, Cat Fancier associations. There are approximately 30 other breeds of cats, which are not specific breeds for the show, but generally are a House cat. Not fit exclusively in each specific class breed cats for demonstrating purposes and usually fall within the scope of the category of ' pet ' households ".

Many breeds of CAT have family roots, going back millions of years of One breed, cat Japanese Bobtail Cat can be traced back over 4000 years of history. They were common and well-known instances across Japan, the middle ages. In the present day, however, are the cats but mit's own big imagination throughout Japan and around the world.

Most cat breeds can be found in the region of North America. Alley cat is considered to be the "race" cat, but actually refers to the Cat, who was born in desperate circumstances such tunnels and outside areas only to defend themselves in life's situations. Are generally not human animal friendly and never becomes domesticated or live anywhere outside of the environment in which they originate. Persian today do not understand why is one type of very popular cat. Siamese cat is also a popular breed, although they were suspected of being destructive and foul tempered animals.

Throughout the history of cats proved to be the Supreme self-producing breed, due to the short period of pregnancy and the lack of checks on their freedom to roam. Female cats in heat have very little control over what happens when a male Cat detects that the biological call, which comes from their scent. This can happen multiple times to one female Cat her master from kitten bearing. Sad thing is that from each of her litters, the pattern continue with each generation, so we have an outbreak, homeless cats roaming our planet.

Most cats are difficult to determine what a specific race, they can. Most people do not select the cats on the basis of race, but more by their color. Some breeds of cats, which can be positively identified as a specific race after viewing them. You may not know, which bears the name of the breed, but you can see that they look different than run-of-the-mill House Cat.

Like dogs special breeds of cats has become increasingly popular in the 1960s. People read about the new breed of cats that have some relationship in looking for and we will pay a fair amount of money for their Empowerment breed. Many people do this seems silly, considering there are so many cats needing good homes, but actually I feel the same about specific breeds of dogs as well. There are simply too many homeless animals there and to "load" a race of animals only to personalize is horrible in my book. I will go to the shelter each weekday to save an animal before I would buy one of the keepers of ..., but that's just me.

Cat Breeding - Choosing Your Breed and Mating

Cat breeding might be something you think you could do either as a hobby or a business. You love your cat, you love kittens, cats get pregnant easily and you can sell those kittens for some serious dollars. What could be easier.

Well to begin with, you will need a pure bred kitten if you don't already own one. This will require researching the different breeds and choosing which type you want to breed from. Study the genetics of breeding by reading specialised magazines and/or talking to cat clubs. Then you will need to research the different breeders, choose one and book a female kitten from the next litter.

You should not select your kitten until it is at least three months old as you will need to assess its personality and the marking or colours of its coat. You will want a kitten that is calm, responsive and has an outgoing nature. Watch how she interacts with her siblings and the environment she is coming from. You will want detailed information about the pedigree and breeding records of the queen. If the queen has a history of miscarriages or stillborn kittens, your kitten will undoubtedly inherit some of those characteristics. The owner will also be assessing you as a possible owner for the kitten and may even want references from your vet. It is essential you have a good relationship with your vet as you may need to call him during an emergency.

You will need a room for breeding in, as well as an outdoor run so your cat can get enough exercise and fresh air.

Once all this has been achieved and you have brought your pedigree kitten home, you will need to make sure she is registered and micro-chipped. She will need to be exercised and played with to keep her in top physical condition, and she must develop a strong bond with you so she can be confident you will be there when needed.

It is best to wait until the kitten is around 12 months before putting her to stud to minimise the risk of problems at birth. You will need to investigate stud cats that you want your cat to mate with. The person you purchased your kitten from is a good person to contact about this as they will be aware of genetically compatible toms. You will also find that some breed clubs will publish a stud list of proven males. You will want to visit various breeders to check the conditions your cat will be kept in during the mating. Some breeders require the queen to be brought to the tom, others will do it the other way around. There is paperwork to be gone through including the pedigree, registration, certificates of up to date vaccinations and current health certificates to show there are no infectious diseases. You will probably have to have your cat's nails clipped before mating. Make sure that the conditions and fees are agreed upon before mating. This needs to include another free mating if the queen should not become pregnant.

If the tom is to be brought to you, you must thoroughly disinfect the stud run and queen's quarters. The queen's quarters will allow the stud to 'talk' to her without actual contact. This means they are able to get used to each other before mating.

Before you start to breed from her, you will need to feed her a specialised diet over a period of a few weeks as recommended by the breeder. This is to get the body into top condition. You must make sure there are no fleas or other parasites, internally or externally.

During the actual breeding process, you may be required to be present to ensure all is well with your cat. Breeding is a noisy and violent looking process. The penis of the tom has barbs on it and this causes the queen to scream as he withdraws. As soon as the male withdraws, the female turns on him, biting and clawing. All this can be very distressing for you, so you need to be prepared. For your cat's first mating, it is best to go with an experienced older tom.

I haven't kept a running total of costs yet but you will be running at around a thousand dollars or so. The costs haven't finished yet as there is still the pregnancy, birth and care of the kittens to be taken care of. Look for the next article in this series: Cat Breeding - Pregnancy and Birth.

Large Domestic Cat Breeds

Cats are probably the most popular of pets nowadays. Originally valued for their inbred ability to hunt various house pests such as mice and roaches, cats also offer a warm and affectionate companionship to their owners. In 1987, cats overtook dogs as the number one pet in America (about 50 million cats resided in 24 million homes in 1986) and bout 37% of American homes today have at least one cat. Domestication of cats were first believed to have originated in ancient Egypt in about 3000 BC, where cats where also revered as sacred animals. Different breeds of domesticated cats come in various sizes. Some pet owners prefer small kitten-sized ones, while some prefer large-size domesticated cat breeds.

When choosing pet cats, one must consider the breeds' characteristics in addition to its size. Here are just some of the large domesticated cat breeds that are popular with cat-lovers.

The Maine Coon

The Maine Coon is a native of the state of Maine in the USA where it is also the official state cat. It is one of the largest breeds of domesticated cats where the males can weigh anywhere between 13 and 18 pounds (5.9 and 8.2 kg) on average, and females between 8 and 12 pounds (3.6 and 5.4 kg). In 2006, the Guinness World Records named a male purebred Maine Coon the "Longest Cat". It measured 48 inches (120 cm) in length, from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail, and weighs 35 pounds (16 kg).

The Ragamuffin

The Ragamuffin is a long-haired domestic cat. Ragamuffins are fairly large cats - females weigh between 10 to 15 pounds (4.54 to 6.80 kg), and males weigh between 15 to 20 pounds (6.80 to 9.07 kg). Ragamuffins are notable for their sweet, friendly personalities and plush, rabbit-like fur. They are adoptable as early as four months of age, but do not reach full maturity until around four years of age. The Ragamuffin is an expensive breed and costs can range from $900 - $1200 per kitten.

The Ocicat

The Ocicat is an all-domestic breed of cat which resembles a 'wild' cat but has no wild blood. It is named for its resemblance to the ocelot, which is a wild cat. Ocicats are a very outgoing breed. They are often considered to have the spirit of a dog in a cat's body. Most can easily be trained to fetch, walk on a leash and harness, come when called, speak, sit, and lie down on command. On average ocicats weigh about 12.1 pounds or 5.5 kilograms.

The Turkish Van

The Turkish Van is a large, semi-longhaired cat with a swimmer's body. The cat is moderately long and its back legs are slightly longer than its front legs. The coat is the most fascinating trait on this cat. The semi-long haired, water resistant single coat, is thick in winter but very soft, like rabbit fur or cashmere. During the spring and summer months when it becomes extremely hot, the long hair on the body is shed for a shorter coat that retains the cashmere feel. Male Vans grow to about 16 pounds (7.3 kg) while females tend to be a bit lighter in weight, 12 to 14 pounds (5.4 to 6.4 kg). Vans, because of their fine fur, are hypo-allergenic cats. They are considered excellent pets for those with allergies.

Pixie-Bobs

Pixie-Bobs are a fully domestic breed of cat bred to resemble the North American Bobcat. Pixie-Bobs are a large breed, with males reaching 18 pounds (8 kg) and females reaching 14 pounds (6 kg). The Pixie-Bob's body is stocky and solid. Pixie-Bobs are also the only polydactyl breed recognized by The International Cat Association (TICA). These cats may have anywhere from six to seven toes on each foot.

These large-size cat domestic cat breeds are only a few of the ones available for pet purposes. It is important to take note of the qualities of the breed of cat before we decide which ones to adopt, as this would remarkably affect the way we take care of them. Knowing such could help make things a lot easier for us pet owners as we go about our endeavor in raising our pets.

Burmese cats-American and European races

Burmese cats are compact and muscular, with medium-length legs and tail and a short jacket, thin, bright. The American race has a more rounded shape, while the European race is more angular. The original temple Burmese cats came from Siam. In early 1900, the Americans began their own version known as the American Burmese playlist. The European race began in England after 1945, when returning from Burma led Burmese cats home.

Characteristics

Burmese means: luck, beautiful and splendid appearance in Thai language. Originally, this breed of cats were exclusively Brown, but recently due to years of selective breeding American Burmese cats come in a wide variety of colors; Sable, blue, Champagne, cinnamon Tortie Sable, and Platinum. And European Burmese cats come in six additional colors; Red, cream, seal Tortie, blue Tortie, lilac Tortie and Chocolate Tortie.

Although the American and European breeds are very similar there are subtle differences. American Burmese cats are more rounded and compact with forward sloping ears and golden eyes. The rounded form was a later development that sometimes resulted in an inherited deformity of the skull that can be lethal. European Burmese cats are angular and more muscular with a wedge shaped head, upright ears and yellow to Amber eyes that are slightly inclined.

Temperament

In temperament, the two breeds are intelligent, affectionate, loyal and friendly, and they enjoy human company. They make ideal pets and require little maintenance.

History

Burmese cats originated in Siam, now Thailand and were not known outside the region until the Burmese invaded Siam. In 1871, a pair of Siamese cats was displayed at a cat show held at the Crystal Palace. These cats closely resembled the American Burmese cats but had the features Siamese markings. The first Burmese cats in England were considered Chocolate Siamese, then in 1955, the first blue Burmese was born, followed by red, cream and kittens tortoise in the next decade. In America the primary color was Brown (also known as champagne), then the first lilac kitten was born in 1971 and during the Decade of 1980 Platinum and blues were accepted for registration.

Care and maintenance of Burmese cats should be kept like any other housecat; good nutrition, regular game and veterinary visits. For more information about the care and feeding of our favorite furry pets, visit lovefatcats.com:
