Most people would recognize a seal point Siamese cat if they saw one, although they may not know that was a seal.

A seal point Siamese is the archetype, a cat with dark brown-seal points (points are facial mask, ears, nose, feet and tail of a cat), shot to fame in movies like the incredible journey, that darn cat! and Bell, book and candle.

But you know how many other colors the Siamese cat is found in? Or, what if a particular color is classified as ' Siamese ' or not may depend on which country the cat is?

The original four Siamese colors are seal point, blue point, chocolate point and lilac point means that, as their names suggest, that these cats have seal-Brown, blue-grey, slate-milk chocolate or pale lilac.

These colors are the four Siamese colors ' official ' recognised by the cat writers ' Association (CFA) in the United States. Any other, different colors found in cats with a default of Siamese coat are called colorpoint Shorthair cats ' ' CFA-Colorpoint Shorthair by being, in effect, classified as a separate and distinct breed for the Siamese breed.

However, over in the United Kingdom and other European countries, there are additional colors that are also recognised as being officially Siamese.

These are red, apricot, caramel cream, cinnamon, and fawn point Siamese-latest additions to the four original colors. Ten colors in all. So far so good!

When Siamese coloration becomes complicated is that there are also distributed, or tabby (known as lynx in the US) and mottled, or versions of turtle (tortie) of colours above, too. And for good measure-and added complication-tortie-tabby (a mixture of striped and mottled) also.

So how many colors are there in total?

Well, as mentioned above, a bit depends on where you are in the world, but ... the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF), breed registration best known in the United Kingdom, recognises no less than 32 Siamese colors in all!
